Muenster Cheese Mummies

Muenster Cheese Mummies

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400° F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
  • Stack four slices of havarti cheese on top of each other and use a 2” round cutter to punch out four circles. Remove the cheese stack circles and set aside. Repeat two more times with the remaining slices of cheese. When you are finished, you should have twelve circular stacks of cheese, four slices in each stack. Set aside.
  • Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured work surface to a 12”x12” square. Cut pastry into twelve 3”x3” squares, and one 3”x12” strip.
  • Place one cheese stack in the center of each of the puff pastry squares and fold each of the pastries over the cheese to create a little parcel. Seal the edges tightly. Place on the prepared sheet tray, seam side down.
  • Take the remaining strip of puff pastry and cut it half horizontally. Cut each half into six 1/2” strips. Wrap the strips around the cheese parcels to resemble mummies and then brush the tops with a beaten egg.
  • Bake for 15-17 minutes, until the puff pastry is golden brown and then decorate with candy eyeballs. Serve with peach jam.
