Caramelized Onion and Mushroom Havarti Melt

  • Heat a large frying pan over medium heat then add the olive oil. Once melted, add the sliced onion, stir to coat the onions in the fat then cover and lower the heat to low. Stirring occasionally, caramelize the onions for about 40 minutes then move to a plate.
  • Next, add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet with a bit more olive oil and butter. Fry the mushrooms until golden brown, about 15 minutes, then season with salt and ground black pepper. Move the mushrooms to the plate with the caramelized onions.
  • Assemble the sandwiches by adding butter on the outside of each slice then place into the hot skillet. Top each slice with 2 slices of Arla Havarti Cheese, then add caramelized onions and mushrooms to only one of the slices. Once each sourdough slice is toasty and the cheese has melted, combine the two slices move to a cutting board and slice. Repeat with the remaining ingredients to make more melts.
