Greenhouse Gas Emissions

It is our goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions along our entire supply chain - from cow to consumer.

Our 2008 climate strategy is now part of our environment strategy for 2020. Up until 2010, we committed to working with our cooperative farmers and suppliers to reduce the climate impact from our raw materials as much as possible. In our environmental strategy for 2020, we address greenhouse gas emissions from dairy farms in an even more progressive way. Read more under the sustainable agriculture  section.

Within the areas of production, transport and packaging, our target is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent by 2020 - using 2005 as our baseline. In order to achieve these targets, we will work on the following activities:

Transport

• Use of sustainable biofuel in trucks

• Training drivers to drive in an environmentally-friendly way - see video below

• Increase fuel efficiency by one percent annually

Food production

• Use environmentally-friendly technologies

Move from fossil to renewable energy sources

• Increase energy and water efficiency by three percent annually

Packaging

• Minimizing the amount of packaging used

• Increase the use of low-impact materials

• Achieve 100 per cent recyclable packaging materials

We train drivers on Eco driving. This has saved us more than 200,000 gallons of diesel each year. Hear transport manager Peter Sørensen explain Eco driving:
